Book Review and Giveaway!

by 123pizza on September 24, 2008

I recently had the opportunity to read The S.O.S. for PMS: Practical Help and Relief for Moms by Mary Byers. Let me tell you that this book couldn’t have come at a better time. It came at the right time as far as I was concerned since I was suffering from PMS. This book has been eye-opening in that I didn’t realize that some of what I was feeling was PMS-related.

I have enjoyed the practical advice and am looking forward to implementing some of it next month. Well, not really enjoy the fact that I have PMS but that there are things that I can do to prevent from turning into witchy-woman and alienating my family.

About the Book:

The SOS for PMS:
Practical Help and Relief for Moms

In her latest book, Mary explores an often frustrating topic, the symptoms of PMS, and offers practical advice and encouragement for mothers. Readers will find comfort in the stories shared by other moms, realizing that they are not alone in their struggles with PMS.

With this book, you will find suggestions designed to inspire healthier lifestyles, relationships, and daily choices for all women.

Gather any group of moms together and the topic of frustrating PMS symptoms rises up in conversation along with the guilt and concern about its effects on family members.

Now Mary Byers, author of The Mother Load, offers mothers encouragement, help, and camaraderie as she shares:

  • women’s stories-the good, bad, and the hopeful
  • overlooked symptoms and how to manage them
  • foods and activities to avoid or indulge in
  • God’s first aid for stress, depression, and anxiety
  • a call for help-how husbands can come to the aid of their wives

This gathering of useful advice and shared experiences will comfort readers who have ever felt alone in their PMS plight and will inspire healthier lifestyles, relationships, and daily choices for all women.

A Word from the Author:

“It’s my hope that this book will bring help, hope and healing to moms who suffer from PMS. It’s been a source of despair in my own life but things are looking up now that I’ve developed my own coping plan. Those I interviewed for this book shared intimately about their own battles and I believe their stories, along with that of Callie’s (the main character in the book) will convince other women that it is possible to change their current response to PMS and encourage them to start today.”

It’s the first day of the month and you know what that means…I feature an author and the first chapter of their latest book. This month’s author is Lisa Samson with her new book Hollywood Nobody.

I thought this book was cute and can’t wait for the second book to be released. I had fun following Scotty around town and as she homeschooled herself. I was also drawn to the fact that she has a blog…Hollywood Nobody.

Guess what? I’m giving away a copy of Hollywood Nobody. All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what forbidden food you have an obsession with. Scotty obsesses about cheese and I absolutely love, crave, obsess about ice cream. So much so I blogged about it here.

This giveaway is open to US residents only (sorry, international shipping is too expensive). I’ll randomly draw a winner Thursday, November 8 and announce the winner Friday.

Pink Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

by 123pizza on October 30, 2007

I am trying to win a pink Dyson vacuum cleaner for several reasons…

  1. My vacuum cleaner was used when I bought it.
  2. The self-propel no longer works and it’s a pain to use.
  3. I like pink.
  4. I’m too cheap to buy a new vacuum.

Because I’m so nice but mostly because it’s part of the rules I’m telling you about the contest so you have a chance to win also. So head over to The Domestic Diva for your chance to win.

I need book suggestions. Please help.

by 123pizza on October 8, 2007

I’m needing some suggestions on what to read. I’m looking around my house at my bookshelves and am realizing that I don’t feel like reading any of those books yet. I am currently in the process of reading two books 1) Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman by Phyliss Chesler and 2) Off the Record by Elizabeth White.

My tastes in books are rather unusual…I tend to read just about anything as long as it keeps my interest. I usually read the classics, with some chick-lit when I don’t want to think. I also tend to read non-fiction on whatever subject strikes my fancy at the time or if I’m doing research on whatever topic is of interest at the time. Lately I have been reading Christian Fiction and blogging about it. I like to read young adult and children’s books also.

So anyway I was wondering what you, my readers, have to suggest for me to read. I’m running out of books and need help. Let me rephrase that…I’m running out of books that I feel like reading at the moment and need help. I don’t think I will ever run out of books because I keep buying more and haven’t read all that I already own.

So dear, dear readers…help me. Help me find some books to read. All suggestions are most welcome.

Also don’t forget about my book giveaway that ends Friday at midnight, October 12. I am giving away a copy of Demon: A Memoir by Tosca Lee. You can read about the author and the first chapter of Demon on my Feature Authors page. Saturday morning I will randomly draw a winner. This contest is open to those with a U.S. address only.

I have a copy of Demon! I have a copy of Demon! I have a copy of Demon! Nana-nana-booboo! I have a copy of Demon!

Oh yeah…right…I’m not supposed to brag and rub it in. My mom did teach me manners…I just choose to not use them most of the time.

Where was I? Oh…right…I have a copy of Demon: A Memoir by Tosca Lee…and you could too! Yes, you read that right! You could have your own copy of Demon just by leaving me a comment. This giveaway is open to those with a U.S. mailing address only. This giveaway ends Friday, October 12. On Saturday I will randomly choose a winner.

Then the winner and I will have Demon! The winner and I will have Demon! The winner and I will have Demon!

(It’s a good thing my mom doesn’t know how to work a computer!)
