Friday Findings

by 123pizza on December 12, 2008

I’m on a knitting kick right now so I’m showing you the patterns I would like to knit at some time.

Muse Hat - This is my favorite of the two hats listed here. I love the way it looks and was what I was looking for when I started looking at hat patterns.

Lace Beanie - This hat still has the open, airiness to it but in a more practical way.

Airy Waves Shawl - I’ve always wanted to knit a shawl and liked this pattern. I probably won’t do the stripes but I like the simpleness of it and how it can double as a scarf.

Garter Ridge Baby Cardigan - This is what I am knitting for my future niece. I don’t really knit for others but had to knit something for my new niece. This cardigan was the perfect pattern for the yarn I wanted to use.

Mendhi

by 123pizza on November 26, 2008

While looking for links for this post I stumbled upon this article about Mendhi. I have always admired the art of Mendhi. I think it is beautiful. I found some pictures on flickr that show the beauty of Mendhi.

Tutorial: Using Stumble-Upon - Stumble-Upon is what I use to find most of my links. It’s quite addicting and lots of fun.

My Child Will Embarrass You in the Bathroom - I have children and can definitely relate.

Paper Flower Tutorial - I liked the simplicity of these flowers.

LibriVox - books in mp3 format. What could be better than that? Oh. They’re free.

How to follow the Curly Girl method for curly hair - I actually got this link from I Am (Not) - Natalie Witcher.

Friday Findings

by 123pizza on October 24, 2008

This week’s findings are some blog posts that spoke to me and a plug for my church.

Keeping your mouth shut - from the post: what is something you feel you can’t say in church, or around other christians?

Forgive the Church? - Most people have been hurt by the church at one time or another. I know I have and didn’t go to church for almost ten years because of the hurt I experienced. I’ve also been hurt off and on since I’ve started attending church regularly for almost ten years.

Vision - When I first started attending LifeChurch.tv my old pastors were concerned that hubby and I wouldn’t be challenged to grow in our walk with Christ. I can honestly say that I have been challenged quite a bit since I’ve been attending.

YouVersion - An online Bible community and tool. (I use it as a tool instead of as a community.) Not only can you read the Bible online but you can also journal. What I love about this is I can be on any computer, log into my account, and pick up where I left off in my Bible reading and still take notes. If I forget my Bible or journal, no problem, it’s online.

LifeChurch.tv - My church. If you are not able to attend one of their campuses there is an online campus you can attend. The internet campus rocks! I love it! There is also online lifegroups and they also rock! You should check us out sometime!

Friday Findings

Today’s findings will be a bit different. Instead of sharing links I’ve found on the internet, I’m going to share some authors I have enjoyed reading lately.

Ellen Hopkins - I’ve read Crank and am in the process of reading Impulse.

Elizabeth Berg - I’ve read Talk Before Sleep: A Novel and Dream When You’re Feeling Blue: A Novel.

Gregory Maguire - I’ve read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Harper Fiction) and have started Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister: A Novel.

Scott Westerfeld - I’ve read Uglies (Boxed Set): Uglies, Pretties, Specials (Uglies) and have checked out Peeps but haven’t started it yet.

Stephanie Meyer - Technically, I haven’t read anything by her but am anticipating reading Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1) as soon as it is my turn at the library. Right now there are quite a few people who are wanting to read it. I think I was second in line last time I checked. I have almost bought it several times but the fact that I had groceries to buy prevented me from purchasing it. Darn me for being all responsible.

Friday Findings

by 123pizza on October 10, 2008

I was playing around on deli.cio.us and found out that I can subscribe to tags. So, I decided to see how it works. I subscribed to the tags of sewing and knitting.

This is soooo much easier finding sites about sewing or knitting. Today I want to share with you some of the things I would like to sew at some time. Speaking of which, I really ought to check out Hancock Fabrics’s web site to see what they have on sale this week.

How to whip stich - This is for Best Friend. She knows how to sew but doesn’t know how to whip stitch. Me, when I needed to sew something it was always using a whip stitch because that’s all I knew.

Ironing Board Cover - My ironing board cover is about to bite the dust.

Machine Quilting 101 - I’m thinking about making a quilt for my bed and these instructions are wonderful. I think I might actually be able to do this.

Reversible Patchwork Bag - I think this bag would be excellent to make before I start on my quilt. This would give me practice and a chance to see if I really have the patience to see the quilt from start to finish.

Friday Findings

by 123pizza on October 3, 2008

My kiddos have to practice math facts for 10 minutes a day as part of their homework. I get tired of having to fire problems off the top of my head and using flashcards so I spent some time looking for online help. I needed ideas on how to mix it up and not be doing the same thing day after day.

The following links are what I have been doing this week. Enjoy!

The Teachers’ Cafe - Not just for math! I used the math portion of it but will be returning to this site for other subjects.
Fact Family Addition and Subtraction - There is more to this site but I just used the addition game. I will eventually have my son play the telling time game but for now my focus is math.
Drill Sheets for Math - I like having simple drill sheets. I don’t really time the kiddos but it’s nice to know how many problems they can get done in 10 minutes.
Study Booklet - I loved this site! I got so many ideas of things to do with my son who is new to addition. Not only do I love the study book but I loved the touch points.
Math Magician Games - I have used this web site for about a year for reviewing math facts. It’s one site I keep coming back to over and over again.
