Every year at the end of the school year my kiddos will get a fever. The fever is high enough that they can’t go to school and low enough that they are bouncing off the walls. The fever is also just enough to make them a bit whiny and cranky.
With all three kiddos sick it’s difficult enough but when I’m also sick it’s hell. Yesterday the kiddos started getting on my nerves and when it started again today I forced myself to look at the positive.
Benefits to having all the kiddos sick at the same time:
- They will get well at the same time. When the kiddos are sick at the same time they get well at the same time. This way there’s only a short time that they are sick instead of week upon week upon week of sickness. It’s over and done with before you know it.
- It prepares you for whatever school vacation is coming up. I’m not sure when your kiddos get sick but mine always get sick right before summer break. The way I see it it’s preparing me for when they are home all.the.time. I enjoy having my kids home but I also enjoy the quiet when they are at school. Their sickness is just a friendly reminder of whats to come.
- The younger siblings have someone to play with. When the older kiddos are at school, youngest doesn’t have anyone to play with. Usually she has to wait until school lets out or the weekend, this way they are home and willing to play whatever she wants because they are happy they aren’t going to school.
- They are more loving. My school-age kiddos are so happy to not have to go to school that they love on me and tell me how much they love me. I love it especially since the eldest is getting to the age where most kiddos start to pull away from mom. Nope. Not this time. My kiddos are as loving as can be.
- I don’t have to clean house. Face it. When the kiddos are sick the house isn’t getting clean. I’m looking at two baskets of clean laundry that needs to be folded and put away but it hasn’t been done yet because we’ve been too busy watching movies. The general rule is that if kiddos are ill, mom is off the hook from cleaning. For real. I don’t remember where I heard that or read it but I’m sure it true.
There you have it folks. That’s what I was focusing on today when the kiddos started driving me crazy. Now, I’m off to start a load of laundry and tackle the two baskets of laundry I just mentioned. Although I won’t be getting any other cleaning done Hubby does need work clothes and my favorite pjs need to be washed.

Way to be positive! I liked how you pointed out when the kids are sick, you don’t have to clean.
And you get to hang out and watch movies. Cuz after all, they *need* you.
