Ditching the Bible Reading Plan

by 123pizza on February 3, 2009

Every year I make a goal of reading all of my bible through in a year. Every year except for one I have failed. I haven’t reached my goal.

This year is different. My goal is to just read my bible. I am starting in Genesis and will read it all the way through but am not putting any time restraints on it. If I get done in a year then I get done in a year. If it takes me longer then so be it.

This year my goal is to read my bible because I want to not because I have to. Or feel as though I have to. I want to enjoy my bible reading. I don’t want it to be a burden.

Reading the bible in a year is a great discipline but I want more. I read all kinds of books for pleasure and want my bible reading to be the same. I want to read my bible for the great piece of literature it is and not just for what I can get from it.

I love the Word of God and want to enjoy it more. I want to enjoy all aspects of it and not be burdened by the fact that I didn’t get my reading done for the day. I don’t always read other books every day so why should I feel guilty for not reading the bible every day.

So, this year I won’t feel guilty if I don’t read every day. It’s okay. I know I will be reading and I know I will be enjoying my reading.

Do you have a bible reading plan or do you wing it?
