Stashing The Stash

yarnstash

The other day my friend, JS, asked me how I stashed my yarn. Before I could answer her she told me how our friend, CH, keeps her yarn in a tote. (Well, of course, what else are you supposed to do with it?) She, JS, then proceeded to say how she couldn’t do that, have her yarn tossed in a tote. (Hmmm, I have a feeling I’m not going to be able to help her.) For now she separates her yarn by color and keeps it in Wal-Mart bags. (So we’re similar in that regard but mine’s separated by type of yarn.)

I told her how my sister-in-law keeps her yarn in something like this only it’s white with girlie colors for the baskets and I think it’s bigger but I’m not positive. (I’m too busy drooling over her yarn to pay attention to how it’s stored even though I have to pull out the baskets to look at the yarn.)

Me, I throw my yarn in a big blue tub I picked up for a few bucks at Dollar General. My theory was that eventually I would have a system that is prettier and easier to find stuff but that hasn’t happened yet. Not only do I keep my yarn in this tub but I keep my knitting/crochet books and all my knitting needles. It’s pretty easy to find everything especially since I have most of my yarn (read: the ones purchased recently) in bags to keep them separated from the rest.

How do you store your yarn?
