Interpeeps. My dear Interpeeps. Today was an awesome day in terms of my Aspergers son. He is writing! As in writing letters, and words, and sentences!
You see, writing has always been difficult for him. For some reason his writing has not improved from learning how to write letters in Pre-K. He’s now in second grade and I happened to notice how neat his handwriting was.
Somewhere along the way he has decided to write. It used to be that if he didn’t want to write he wouldn’t.at.all. Wouldn’t do it for nothing. He even conned a girl at school to do his writing for him.
The physical act of writing was difficult and tiring for him. Now, all of a sudden, his writing has improved. Like drastically improved. He had homework this evening and I saw he would have to write and immediately dreaded what this would entail. We didn’t have a problem. He sat down and did his work. I was amazed.
I am very thankful for all who have invested in my son to help him be a success. I am thankful for our team at school who have partnerned with us to help my son. I am thankful that they see him for who he is and who he will become instead of a problem child. (Been there done that didn’t even get a t-shirt.) Most of all I am thankful that he finally feels as though he can do this.

Yay for your son!!! How proud you must be
.
How I relate! Our son has struggled all his life with handwriting and to this day hardly writes anything. He’s 23 and starting college–for the third time. This time we think he’s ready to go for it, in a professional theatre training program.
I’m excited about your son’s progress. You encourage all moms who deal with learning-challenged children.
