Design in His Future?

by 123pizza on June 18, 2008

When my kids can’t find anything to watch on t.v. they will watch HGTV. I don’t mind because it’s fun to see what the designers can do with a limited budget.

I am by no means a designer and my house looks it. I’m not exactly sure what my style is and have no clue as to where to begin. That’s why I like to watch the shows where people do know what they are doing.

It’s interesting that my sons are interested in the shows and several times I have caught them in the hall watching them when they are supposed to be in bed.

Today after watching Design on a Dime, my eldest son decided he wanted to make a sofa. He started with how high he wanted it and how long it would be. He listed the materials he wanted to use…silk, metal, and wood. After coming up with the materials and measurements he then went online to look up the silk and the cost of metal.

After he had written down the fabric color and the kinds of metal he wanted to use, he then set down to draw a design of the sofa. I was pretty impressed. Needless to say, we aren’t able to afford all the materials for him to build us a sofa but I’m going to suggest he build a sofa for his little sister’s doll house. I’m pretty sure I can come up with the materials for that.
