Whisper of Freedom Blog Tour

by 123pizza on May 14, 2008

As part of Tricia Goyer’s Whisper of Freedom Blog Tour, I agreed to participate in a Meme.

Here are the MEME questions!

1. List three things you would do with a chest full of gold (assuming you got to keep it!)

  • To sound somewhat responsible I will put some towards a newer car but really would just want to buy the things I normally don’t get to purchase. Wait. I don’t normally get to purchase newer cars so that still counts as frivolous. Yea.
  • Purchase a laptop. I want a laptop. I’m tired of sharing my computer. This is supposed to be mine but the kiddos use it and hubby uses it (even though he has a laptop) and I’m tired of having to ask to use my computer when someone else is on it.
  • Buy a digital SLR Camera and Photoshop CS3 so I can play around with my new hobby. I would really like a digital SLR to play with. Expensive yes, but the quality photos you can get. Wow. Plus, I would like Photoshop to be able to enhance my photos.

2. List three charities/missions/organizations you support (and why).

  • The local pregnancy crisis center – I have been in a position where I didn’t have the money to get clothes, diapers, or baby furniture before. These women need to know that when they choose to keep their babies there is help.
  • My church – It is important to put my resources into my church. I shouldn’t go there every week expecting to be fed and not willing to help out. Even though I don’t do anything mainstream, my ministry is still important. Although, I do respect the fact that sometimes you have to have a break. I took a year off recently because I was burnt out and wanted to quit church all together. You have to have a healthy balance between life and ministry.
  • Weight-Loss/Healthier Living group at church – It is a much needed ministry and seems to be overlooked by the general population. If we encourage each other and are accountable in losing extra weight then we will be able to do anything that God calls us to do. Sometimes we are called to do something and we physically can’t do it because of our health.

3. List three ways you have volunteered your time/services.

  • Being in charge of the nursery at church. Guess what? This is so not my ministry. I quit after a year and still haven’t volunteered in there much.
  • Running the children’s department at church. This was fun and I poured much of my life into this ministry. My year long break began when I stepped down from this position and it was a difficult transition. I’m glad I listened to God and stepped down because he restored me and enabled me to start the next ministry in my life.
  • Leading the women’s Weight-Loss/Healthier Living group. This program is called B.A.B.E.S. (Beautiful Accountable Babes Exercising Sensibility). It is a wonderful program and if I would have kept up with it I’m sure I would have seen some results. I was honest with my group as I was leading them that I was in rebellion and was going to eat whatever I wanted.

4. List three things you keep “hidden” when company comes over.

  • This is hard since I don’t really have anything to hide. At one time I hid my Coke Zero because I didn’t want to hear anyone nagging me about it. Now I don’t care and keep it on my counter.
  • Boxes. We are getting ready to move so I’m hiding boxes otherwise my house looks horrible. Update: I am no longer hiding boxes because a friend brought some more over and they are behind a chair in my living room. So I guess they are somewhat hidden.
  • The things I’m getting rid of. I don’t want people going through it, keeping it and giving it back to me. Yes. It has happened. Also, I am afraid someone will talk me into keeping it. I am moving into a smaller home and have to get rid of stuff. If I really need it I’ll get it again later.

5. List the last three things you’ve lost.

  • Books I would like to read but have already packed. This is frustrating because it’s not like I only have a few boxes to go through. Oh no. I have many book boxes and some of them have already been moved. Looking for packed books is futile.
  • Does my sanity count? Sometimes I feel as though I’m losing it but then I stop, take a deep breath, and try to break whatever I’m working on down into smaller increments.
  • Myself. I didn’t know who I was for the longest time. As I get older and my children get older I find myself evolving and not sure who I am. I have to take time to sit back, reflect, and pray to see who I am becoming. It’s sometimes painful and sometimes exhilarating.

6. List the last three things you’ve found.

  • Myself. I now know who I am. What a wonderful feeling.
  • A greater appreciation for the man my husband is. He has been gone for six months and even though I get to see him on the weekends I still miss him. I miss being able to touch him. (Get your mind out of the gutter!) What I mean passing is by him in the hallway and brushing up against him or holding his hand while we are driving in the car. I miss taking communion with him at church. Communion has got to be the biggest turn on ever! I talk to him but it isn’t the same. We are able to have comfortable silences but they are not comfortable when you are talking on the phone. It’s those things that I miss and appreciate.
  • Great friends and relationships. I really don’t know what I’ll do without you when I move. The friendships I have are God-appointed friendships and I know God will give me other friends but I really want these friends to move with me. We can start our own community and I think there are enough of us with different talents that we could even start our church! (I’m joking. For real. I think. Maybe I’m not.)

Tag! You’re it! Now it’s your turn to answer the questions. Leave a comment with your answers. Really guys, I would love to read what you have to say.

whisper-small.jpgAbout the book: Battles heat up…not only
those being waged by the soldiers on both sides fighting for Spain, but in the
hearts and minds of the men and women who must sacrifice more than their dreams
to save the lives of their loved ones.

In this meticulously researched novel, brave and idealistic
Sophie, Philip, Jose, and Deion realize their only hope for freedom is escaping
Spain’s
borders.

By continuing the story of this band of volunteers during
the Spanish Civil War, A Whisper of Freedom proves that there are whispers of
hope and liberty that resonate through even the darkest night.
